This authenticator should probably be an optional feature. Heck, some people might pay extra for that. I want to cancel my subscription at this point.
I have TFA enabled on half a dozen other sites and apps i use, and none of these require a secondary app to get the job done, or a backup email address. Still, it did perform as intended and get me set up on the first try. Three stars for actually working, two off for having to do it with yet another app. There is a better way. Overall a pleasure to work with Xero, but limited email templates and quote layout options as well as font options.

Open the Xero accounting app from your mobile phone and access your Company account by entering valid login information. Tap on the hamburger icon from the upper-right corner of your screen.
A menu pane appears, click on the profile icon and then the account option. Now tap on the Setup option beside Multi-factor authentication. Proceed further by tapping on the 'Set up multi-factor authentication' option. You can use any authenticator app of your choice. Open your authenticator app and tap on the add icon. Now type your email address and setup key. For any further details, the number at Xero support will be at your service 24X7.
Details to be kept in mind while moving to a new phone:. When you are moving the two-step authentication to a new phone for the Xero login, you need to keep the following things in mind. The same recovery questions and email address can be used. If you wish, you can change them and use new ones.
How to set up the two-step authentication on the new phone. If you don't have a smartphone, or can't use your smartphone for MFA, you can install an authenticator app such as Authy Authy website to your laptop or desktop computer.
